Wedding Bells and Lessons Learned

by | Feb 20, 2025 | Adult Children, Budget

My daughter just got married to a wonderful man. The wedding was a joyous and fun-filled event (at a zoo!), and we are so happy for them both and thrilled to have a new son-in-law! Two weeks later, my adrenaline levels are finally coming back to normal. Here are some takeaways:

  • Weddings are expensive – I know, this isn’t a surprise. But add about 50% to what you think it will cost. (Sounds like a home remodel!)
  • Everyone expects a generous tip – You will look like a drug dealer getting copious amounts of cash out from the bank
  • Everyone wants to be paid in full before the wedding – and vendors prefer checks or bank drafts to save on the credit card surcharge (don’t get me started on the dangers of paying large sums of money, upfront, in cash)
  • Wedding planners are also expensive – and you may not think they are worth it in the months before the wedding, but ours sure came through during that final week!
  • Trends have changed – First look? I’d never heard of it before. But what a lovely way to allow the couple to have an intimate moment and calm nerves before the ceremony. Plus we got some great pictures! (Apparently lions go crazy when they see wedding dresses … don’t wear flowing white on a safari!)
