20 Second Advisor: Summer Staycation

The beach is one of my happy places. Sun, sand, a little beach volleyball and a good book – sign me up! But sometimes those amazing trips aren’t in the budget. Sometimes we haven’t saved enough money and may be tempted to just go anyway. After all, those credit card bills from the trip won’t be due until next month!

Enjoying life today with tomorrow’s dollars is a dangerously slippery slope. Choosing to live below your means may mean fewer flashy trips and experiences, but the peace that comes with not owing your future to bills you racked up today is worth it! The classic staycation is still a thing! Enjoy your hometown like a tourist. Check out the local museums, parks, lakes and local ice cream shops. Take in a minor league game, rediscover your local library, or invite the neighbors over for a pot luck dinner and game night. It may sound old school or cheesy, but the good ole days were good for a reason – and it wasn’t the credit card bill attached!
