Our bodies are like our vehicles – they run much better with preventative maintenance. We can all agree it is more cost effective to get those regular oil changes and tune ups then to wait for a more costly repair months or years down the road.

Preventative health maintenance for ourselves is even more crucial.  After all, we can’t just trade in our current body for the newest model. Taking the time to be intentional about our fitness and health has a huge return on investment. Incorporating regular exercise into our day not only improves our mood and increases mobility, but can also lead to better sleep and improved nutritional choices. I know after a good run the last thing that I want to do is negate that effort with an unhealthy dinner. Regular exercise can also lower your stress levels and help clear your mind, while strengthening relationships and your sense of community. All of these healthy habits can have a real impact on your finances.

Weight loss and increased activity can lower your healthcare costs and can even get you better rates on your life insurance policies. The self discipline it takes to lace up those shoes when you don’t want to is the same attribute that can help you avoid that impulse purchase on Amazon. Putting in the consistent effort to prioritize your health strengthens that same character trait that allows for consistent retirement contributions. Just like we wouldn’t dream of driving our cars without oil or on a flat tire, so too must we take care not to run ourselves on empty. You are worth taking the time to consistently prioritize your own health. The benefits of a healthy life can help with your bank account, but most importantly will help you get the most miles out of your ride!
