20 Second Advisor: For the Love of Money…or For Love AND Money?

by | Feb 12, 2025 | Budget, Financial Planning, Life Goals, Saving

The love of money is said to be the root of all evil…but money itself is simply a tool. This inanimate tool can actually harm or help your relationships. Where we spend our money tells volumes about our priorities, our goals, and our values. This is why being on the same page with your finances can bring countless blessings to relationships.

Investing a few minutes every month to create a budget with your spouse not only will help you both stay on track for your financial goals, but it will strengthen your communication muscles. Making sure that each of you has a say in how your finances are allocated allows you both to take ownership of the budgeting process.

The beautiful thing about a budget is it can change as your life does. We had a car repair come up last night, so the dining and recreation categories of our February budget immediately adjusted lower. Our Valentine’s dinner may be a romantic home cooked meal instead of a fancy night out, but it will be a meal filled with peace knowing the car is being taken care of! When we are open and honest about finances, we are vulnerable. By truly sharing all of your finances in marriage, an interdependence is created that can bring a closeness that is hard to find!
