20 Second Advisor: Retirement Anxiety

by | Aug 2, 2024 | Financial Planning, Retirement

One of the most rewarding things we get to do is help people retire after serving them for many years! It’s a wonderful and exciting season, but it can also generate some nervousness and anxiety. This is completely normal and understandable. Here’s why…

  • New rhythm: You’ve been working 40+ years and all of a sudden you stop. If one spouse hasn’t been working, it’s an adjustment for them too as the daily rhythm changes significantly.
  • New purpose: It’s normal to find purpose and meaning in your work. When that stops, you can feel lost. It’s really important to find NEW purpose in retirement. You can volunteer, work part time, help with grandkids, travel, be active outdoors, find a new hobby, etc!
  • Account withdrawal: After many years of saving and adding to your retirement accounts, it can be hard to shift gears and begin to pull money out! Some people can’t stand to see their account balance go down due to withdrawals. I get it because I’ll likely be one of those people! A good financial plan can help bring peace of mind!

If you or someone you know is feeling “retirement anxiety”, please encourage them that they are normal!
