Two years ago I wrote a blog post about my recent college graduate choosing a first apartment that met his needs (affordable, no roommates) but was, well … not quite what I as a mother would choose for my son:

He valiantly battled those roaches and palmetto bugs for 2 years before giving in and moving on. During his process of finding a new apartment, he scoured online reviews for mention of bugs, and surprised (alarmed?) some of the leasing agents by checking very carefully under all sinks and cabinets for any signs of activity or bug access. He is now moved in* to his new digs and is thrilled with his new place. Yes, it costs more than the old apartment, but it’s still well within his budget. And it’s in a better and more convenient location, has secure access, a nice layout, level appliances, a fitness center … and so far, no bugs!
*Maybe next blog I’ll expand on a related lesson we learned the very hard way: don’t rely on cheap movers to show up.
