20 Second Advisor: The cure for uncertainty? Time.

by | May 1, 2025 | Uncategorized

As the adage goes, nothing in life is certain but death and taxes.  So far in 2025, there is plenty of uncertainty to give investors reason for pause – “Is this time different?” So much seems uncertain this year between tariffs and worldwide geopolitical threats.  My view is that, in time, humans have consistently pushed forward with new ways of solving problems.  In the last 100 years, these advances have led to MRI machines (1974), computers (1946), microwave ovens (1947), the internet (1989), bagless vacuum cleaners (1986), 3D printing (1986), and sliced bread (1928).  Our modern age still has problems, but it is a world with less starvation and more opportunities than 200 years ago.  To be a successful investor, you need to believe that we will continue to innovate and improve.  You must believe that humans have an innate desire to improve their current circumstances.  When we see a problem, will we let it be, or will we find a better way of doing things?  That is how we advance. And with those advancements there is a great deal of investment opportunity.  There are so many ways in which companies can meet the needs and wants of the worldwide population in an ever-changing world.  When you invest with Verisail, you get a slice of that worldwide profit pie.  That is not to say that it will not be a rocky road or an uncertain endeavor.  There has always been and always will be uncertainty.  Trust in the long-term progress of humanity. Be a long-term investor.

For retired clients, you need access to your money in the short term.  For this reason, we usually have a mixture of stocks and bonds.  The bonds serve as ballast in the portfolio to keep things less volatile and allows us to be patient with our long-term stocks.  Sticking to your plan is our best advice.  Trying to outsmart the collective wisdom of the rest of the world usually ends poorly for most investors (no one that I know of has a good track record of consistently “timing” the market).
