While booking a hotel for an upcoming trip, I was reminded that most of our credit cards and memberships provide us with discount opportunities to save on activities we were already going to do. Once I went down the rabbit hole for this small trip, I ended up saving a couple hundred dollars just by selecting the airport parking lot, airline, and hotel that was offering the best discount but still aligned with our desires. The opportunity for savings greatly expands once you are considered a “Senior” in society. The age you can save yourself some cash by calling yourself a senior varies from 50 years old at Krispy Kreme to 62 years old at Marriot Hotels. Many are familiar with programs like AARP, which opens the door for discounts for an annual fee of around $20. But even if you are not a member of a program, many companies offer senior discounts that are available just by asking at the checkout counter. The National Council on Aging provides a quick list of 40+ companies that are willing to shave 10%-20% off their prices. Also, don’t forget to check out your credit card’s partners and offers, especially before taking a trip in which you might be eligible for discounts or upgrades on your next hotel, cruise, or rental car. If you are going to make the purchase anyway, you might as well check to see if you are eligible for a slight discount.
