It’s the most wonderful time of year. That time when you gather with family, celebrate the holidays, and dust the cobwebs off your old budget. But, seriously, I love this time of year. We are looking into the new year and trying to guess/dream/figure out what we’d like to accomplish in 2019.
Vision is the definable intention from which preparation is formed.
Here’s what you need to do to accomplish your goals (financial or otherwise) in 2019:
- Create a vision/dream/goal. Make it super specific. The more specifics you can build around your goal, the better you’ll be able to work towards it.
- See my other blog post about how being specific helps us reach our goals.
- Checkpoints. You likely won’t be at your goal in the first 30 days. As such, schedule regular check-ins (maybe quarterly) to see how you’re doing. Do you need to adjust anything? Is you goal lofty enough? What things do you need to tweak to stay on track. What do you need to stop doing?
- Take the first step. Most people fail because they don’t overcome the inertia of doing nothing. If you really want to change your lifestyle, you need to take a baby step. That baby step then leads to bigger and bigger steps. It’s kind of like Warren Buffett’s famous quote about life and snowballs…
“Life is like a snowball. The important thing is finding wet snow and a really long hill. ” – Warren Buffett
Happy New Year!
