I am sure many of you are thinking about 2023 and what the year has in store. When I think about how I want the year to look, I like using goals over new year’s resolutions. For me personally, resolutions are often vague, not measurable, and they have no real plan behind them. And when you fail to plan, you fail to take action.

I like goals because they are designed to be specific and measurable. Set yourself up for success by setting micro goals along the way to provide encouragement and help you stay on track. Small feelings of accomplishment along the way can help you keep your eye on the bigger prize.

Research has shown time and time again that goals are much more likely to be achieved when they are written down. So go ahead…..write them down for 2023!

For example, here is an idea framed as a resolution vs. a goal. Which one is more likely to be achieved?

Resolution: I want to save some money to go to Europe in 2023.

Goal: I want to save 10% from each paycheck for the next 6 months to go to Europe in 2023.

By rephrasing your New Year’s resolutions to goals, you make them stronger and more likely to be achieved.
