20 Second Advisor: Follower or Leader?

My girls are really into softball. At the end of season party, one parent shared this touching story about their daughter (we will call her G).
G was interviewing with a private school. The school asked, “Are you a follower or leader?”
G responded, “I’m a follower!” G’s parents got really nervous and thought…wrong answer.
The school asked, “Can you explain?”
G said, “I am on a team (our softball team), and I have coaches. I trust them and I follow them so I am a follower!”
Everyone teared up during the interview and at our softball party!
I don’t mean this in a boastful way, but this made me think of our role as advisors. We see our role as that of a coach for our clients. Here’s what I mean:
- We see the road ahead, and it’s our job to lead through good and bad times.
- What’s best for our clients is at the center of every decision we make (especially when investments are down and everyone is recommending something different!)
- We focus on what we can control so our clients can have confidence in their long term plan.
We know it isn’t easy to stay calm right now. We have your back and are here to help! Let us know if you’d like to talk.
